2024 APPRENTICE AUDITION

Collegiate/Early Career Apprentice Dancer

Dance in the Parks seeks a collegiate/early-career dancer with contemporary, modern, and jazz proficiency for our 2024 summer season. Hiring one apprentice to participate in the full rehearsal period and performance season.

REHEARSAL PERIOD (dates are tentative): May 28-July 8, Mon-Thurs 9:30-3:00. 

PERFORMANCES (dates are tentative): July 9-26, weekday evenings

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • 18+ years old

  • Currently enrolled in a collegiate dance program or professional training program or within 2 years of graduation from such program.

APPRENTICE ROLE INCLUDES:

  • Take company class 4x/week during rehearsal period

  • Perform in 1-2 pieces of choreography for all shows on the season

  • Understudy all company dancer roles

  • Assist with show set up at all performance venues (stage & sound system)

  • Paid position - per show rate + rehearsal stipend

CALL FOR CHOREOGRAPHERS

Create for Dance in the Parks' 2024 summer season

Dance in the Parks is seeking choreographic submissions for our 2024 performance season. Selected choreographers may stage a new work or restage an existing one.

Choreographers must use Dance in the Parks company dancers. Casting will be determined in collaboration with the choreographer and artistic staff. The rehearsal process and time spent in the studio is brief. Choreographers have between 5-8 hours to set their work, after which DIP artistic staff rehearses the work leading up to performances.

Choreographers must have availability during the contracted rehearsal period, but are not required to attend performances. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. 

REHEARSAL PERIOD (tentative): May 28-July 8, 2024, Mon-Thurs 11:00-3:00. 

PERFORMANCES (tentative): July 9-26, weekday evenings

2024 HIGH SCHOOL INTERN

Paid internship and scholarship for BIPOC high school dance students

Dance in the Parks seeks a high school intern for our 2024 summer season. The internship aims to give high school-aged dancers of color with goals of joining the professional industry experience working with professionals in professional dance-making settings, teaching and leadership experiences, and other industry skills that add value in hiring decisions.

We are hiring one intern for summer 2024. Our application process helps us focus on the applicants with the highest drive to continue into the professional industry.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Identify as BIPOC

  • 16+ years old

  • At least 5 years of dance training

  • Goals of attending collegiate dance programs, professional training programs, or working in the professional dance industry after high school

  • Enrolled in high school for 2023-24 school year

  • Must be available to work the full rehearsal and performance season (after your school year is over):

  • REHEARSAL PERIOD (dates are tentative): May 28-July 8, Mon-Thurs 9:30-3:00. 

  • PERFORMANCES (dates are tentative): July 9-26, weekday evenings

Intern role:

  • Take company class 4 days a week. 

  • Understudy professional roles in all season works.

  • Assist Assistant Director teach Youth Performance Partner classes

  • Assist with show set up at all performance venues (stage & sound system)

Intern role benefits:

  • $15 hourly pay for rehearsal, performances, and assistant teaching.

  • Tuition scholarship paid toward 2024-25 school year dance training (amount tbd)

  • 9 weeks of professional experience and networking with Chicago dance professionals
