SHE/HER

Mya Occomy began her dance journey at the age of 8, training in modern, hip-hop, and jazz at Hyde Park School of Dance. As she entered high school, she shifted her focus to classical ballet at the Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, where she also spent two years as a member of their youth company, Hiplet Next. Mya danced at Whitney Young High School, where she joined the Guys and Dolls Dance Company. During her time there, she choreographed two productions, both of which were awarded 'Best Choreography,' and she was honored to serve as the Captain for the 2024-2025 school year. A versatile dancer, Mya competed with Intrigue Dance Company, a predominantly Black competition team based in Chicago's South Loop. Her dance education has been enriched by attending prestigious programs such as the Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive, Ballet Chicago's Winter Intensives, and The Kennedy Center Dance Lab, where she worked with former Alvin Ailey dancer Hope Boykin. Mya's passion for dance is unwavering, and she looks forward to the opportunities the future holds.
